This week's tip: qc: loss-of-lock

Loss-of-lock on tracking the phase observable of a signal leads to slips, as discussed in
last week's tip https://postal.unavco.org/pipermail/teqc/2018/002393.html, and the qc
report is designed to show you when teqc detects possible slips.

The qc report is also designed to show you when the receiver's tracking of any phase
observable shows a loss-of-lock, assuming:

1) that the receiver format being used records a loss-of-lock indicator (and for most cases
this is true), and

2) if qc-ing RINEX, that the conversion to RINEX recorded the loss-of-lock in the LLI
flag, bit 0, of the phase observable (as per the RINEX spec).

In the qc, "slip" indicators are then determined by teqc by analyzing the phase (and
possibly other) observables as a function of time; "loss-of-lock" indicators are
reporting on flags from the receiver showing when the receiver determined a possible
phase slip may have occurred.

In the qc long report, the receiver's loss-of-lock counts for each SV can be found in
the multipath RMS summary in the "L* rx" columns for the two carrier frequencies involved
in each multipath combination, where 'L*' would be L1, L2, L5, L6, L7, or L8.  Note for
qc full (i.e. teqc has determined a point position for the antenna) that the "L* rx"
columns are split into two elevation regimes showing counts above and below 25 degrees
above the horizon.  This 25 degree value is the default, but can be changed with the
'-set_comp' option:

      -set_comp[arison,deg] #    set elevation comparison to # degrees (default = 25.00)

In an ideal situation, the count in the corresponding "slips" column (multipath slips detected
by teqc) should about equal the loss-of-lock counts in either of the two "L* rx" columns.
(Note: Due a long-standing bug -- corrected for the next release -- it is possible to see
a totally nonsensical value in one or more rows of the "L* rx" columns for random SVs.
If you see such a value, please disregard.)

In the ASCII time plot at the top of the qc report, a loss-of-lock indicator, 'L', will
occur if the above two conditions are met and there is no ionospheric or multipath slip
detected to overwrite the loss-of-lock indicator.  This overwriting occurs when a slip
is detected because the loss-of-lock indicator has a lower priority in the indicator
hierarchy than any of the slip indicators, i.e. a reminder from last week's tip:

In an ideal situation, all or most of the 'L' loss-of-lock indicators in the ASCII
time plot should be overwritten by one of the slip indicators.  However, it is common
to see 'L' indicators at the beginning and end of a SV's track at low elevation,
e.g. one example among millions ftp://data-out.unavco.org/pub/rinex/qc/2018/230/p1972300.18S

And if you wish to view the ASCII time plot without any 'L' loss-of-lock indicators, use
the '-lli' option = "don't show Loss-of-Lock indicators" when doing the qc.  E.g. using
the '-lli' option would change ASCII time plot lines like these:
