EarthScope is a multi-disciplinary Geoscience project funded by the 
National Science Foundation to explore the structure and dynamics of 
the North American continent. We seek a Web Specialist to work with a 
wide variety of scientists in our team environment. The EarthScope 
Web Specialist will:

.	develop and maintain the EarthScope World Wide Web presence 
by managing a web server and all content including HTML pages.
.	design and implement a scalable, fully W3C standard-compliant 
web site that includes static and dynamic content using "best 
practices" approach and latest technology.
.	maintain the EarthScope data portal, which will allow 
scientists and educators to access different data and metadata 
sources with common tools.
.	work with web administrators of all EarthScope components to 
provide seamless connections between websites.
.	develop and maintain Graphic User Interfaces to diverse data 
sources and applications; design web pages for browser compatibility.
.	produce graphic design displays of scientific and 
quantitative information.
.	create content both reactively and proactively; produce, 
collect, and edit content for the website.

Required skills and experience: advanced knowledge of presentation 
technologies including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and 
Macromedia Dreamweaver, demonstrated ability to develop fully W3C 
standard compliant static and dynamic web content as well as web 
applications; experience with all aspects of the Apache web server, 
experience using Solaris, UNIX, and Linux operating systems, 
familiarity with Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or another relational 
database and DataBase Interface (DBI) experience, advanced knowledge 
of computer programming languages and website development software, 
and Internet and security protocols, plus excellent written and oral 
communication skills.

Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor degree or comparable 
professional experience in Computer Science and 3-5 years experience 
as a Web Master. A background in Geoscience is preferred and a strong 
interest/experience with graphic design is helpful.

Willingness to attend job related professional meetings and 
mentor/train staff to edit website are a plus.
