Tenure-track Faculty Position in
Computational Geophysics
Department of Physics
New Mexico State University
The Department of Physics at New Mexico State University invites
applications for a tenure-track position in Computational
Geophysics. The appointment will be at the level of Assistant or
Associate Professor depending on the candidate's qualifications.
Our particular interests are complexity in physical processes and
robustness in complex physical systems. Priority will be given to
candidates who apply nonlinear dynamics to geological problems.
However, other research areas related to geophysics and other
departmental programs (http://www.physics.nmsu.edu) will also be
considered. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in geophysics, physics
or a related area at the time of appointment, and a significant
record of research productivity. The successful candidate will be
expected to complement the existing programs in tectonics,
seismology and mineral physics, develop a vigorous, externally
funded research program and teach physics and geophysics courses
at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Opportunities for
collaboration and joint support are available at the many
research institutions in New Mexico, including Los Alamos
National Laboratory and the Santa Fe Institute. Applicants should
send a letter of application, curriculum vitae, statements of
teaching philosophy and research interests, and the names and
contact information of at least three references to Chair of
Computational Physics and Geophysics Search Committee, Department
of Physics MSC 3D, New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, NM
88003. The review of applications will begin December 21, 2004
and will continue until the position is filled. New Mexico State
University is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.
Minorities and women are encouraged to apply.
