Dear colleagues,

A session dedicated to earthquake faulting and surface deformation will take
place at the ESC meeting in Crete (Greece, 7-12 September 2008).
http://www.esc2008.org/session_info.aspx?id=52

The session is entitled://SESSION NONINS-2-DEFORM: Large Earthquakes, Active
Deformation and Coastal uplift: Data and Modeling.

We invite contributions from various disciplines to discuss observations of
surface deformation, coastal uplift and subsidence, as well as their
analysis, modeling and their seismological implications. Seismic uplift and
subsidence are widespread worldwide and in the Mediterranean regions that
experienced large subduction and collision earthquakes in the past.

Their study based on interdisciplinary approach using field measurements,
GPS, InSAR and seismicity analysis permits to expand the available
seismological record, but also model earthquake-induced crustal deformation
and refine our understanding of recurrence intervals of major earthquakes
and of the earthquake cycle. In addition, the fault rupture characterization
contributes to the identification of areas of high ground accelerations and
of tsunami generation.

The abstract deadline is 15 June 2008. Looking forward in meeting you in
Crete, Stathis Stiros (Patras University, Greece) and Mustapha Meghraoui
(EOST-Strasbourg, France) Convenors of session NONINS-2-DEFORM
