Apologies for any cross-postings:

The Institute of Geophysics and Tectonics, within the School of Earth and
Environment at the University of Leeds wishes to appoint a Post-doctoral
Fellow in Tectonophysics, for a period of 2 years commencing May 2009.
The appointment will be at Grade 7 (currently 29,704 to 35,469 p.a.).

The Institute has a strong international research profile in the
geophysical sciences, with particular strengths in seismology and
tectonophysics. The new Research Fellow is required to work on a new
project funded by the UK Natural Environment Research Council as part of
the Dynamic Earth Theme of the newly created National Centre for Earth
Observation (NCEO) . The focus of the project is on understanding the
deformation fields associated with the earthquake cycle and comparing
numerical simulations of deformation with available observations.

The successful candidate is expected to have a PhD in some aspect of
numerical modelling of continuum dynamics applied to problems in earth
science (or a closely related area), experience with code development in
the framework of a scientific computing environment, good communication
skills, and ability to work as part of a team. The Research Fellow is
expected to contribute to the development and maintenance of a library of
parallelized computational software used for the solution of continuum
dynamics problems, to publish research papers, and to present their
research at national and international meetings.

Applications including CV, publication list, and names and addresses of
three referees should be received by March 31, 2009. Information about
the School can be found at http://www.see.leeds.ac.uk. Application forms
and further particulars may be obtained from Mrs K. Higham, School of
Earth and Environment, The University of Leeds, Leeds LS2 9JT, UK
(E:K.Higham at see.leeds.ac.uk; T:+44.113.343.5201; F:+44.113.343.5259).
Informal enquiries about the post may be directed to Prof G. Houseman:
