The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) invites applications for the position of
Physical Scientist in the Western Region Earthquake Science Center located
in Menlo Park, CA.  Center members conduct research in geology, geophysics,
and seismology to assess seismic hazard on regional, national, and
international scales.

 

The purpose of this position is to perform tasks related to the collection
and analysis of geodetic data used for measuring crustal deformation and for
earthquake response.

 

The successful applicant will be expected to

 

1) maintain continuously-recording Global Positioning System (GPS) stations
and troubleshoot telemetry for high-rate real-time data

transmission

2) maintain and optimize real-time high-rate GPS data processing and
monitoring of output positions

3) plan and carry out collection of GPS data at locations throughout the
western United States

4) apply knowledge of object-oriented programming to expand the capability
of software tools in support of crustal deformation research and earthquake
response activities.

 

This is a permanent full-time position with an annual salary of $56,172 -
$88,349.  U. S. citizenship is required.  This position may be filled as a
Physical Scientist, GS-1301-9 or GS-1301-11.  There is one vacancy
advertised concurrently as # WR-2010-0431 and # WR-2010-0432.  The vacancy
will be open from July 26, 2010 - September 3, 2010 and may be viewed on the
