Dear Colleagues,

Please could you circulate the advert below to anyone who you think might be interested in this job.

Apologies for any cross postings.

Best wishes

Tim

Research Fellow: Strain mapping with Satellite Geodesy

Fixed term for 4 years, to commence 1 October 2012

You will work in the School of Earth and Environment at the University of Leeds (http://see.leeds.ac.uk), which has a strong international research profile, including the fields of active tectonics and satellite geodesy. You will also be a member of COMET+ (http://comet.nerc.ac.uk) part of the UK National Centre for Earth Observation.

You will work on a major inter-disciplinary project ("Earthquakes without frontiers: a partnership for increasing resilience to seismic hazard in the continents") co-funded by the Natural Environment Research Council and Economic and Social Research Council, aimed at providing transformational increases in knowledge of the distributions of primary and secondary seismic hazards in the continental interiors, identifying pathways to increased resilience in the populations exposed to these hazards, and securing these gains over the long term by establishing a well-networked, trans-disciplinary partnership for increasing resilience to earthquakes.

You will be responsible for the development and automation of InSAR processing routines, and the production of large-scale crustal velocity fields from InSAR and GPS for the Alpine-Himalayan belt.

You will have a PhD in Earth Sciences or a related discipline, excellent communication skills, ability to work as part of a team, and experience in processing InSAR data for tectonic applications. You will participate in all the project meetings and be expected to actively contribute to outreach and training activities as required. You will be expected to publish research papers and to present your research at national and international meetings.

You should be able to commence 1 October 2012 or as soon as practicable thereafter.
