International summer school on the Diversity of Earthquakes
The Earthquake Research Institute of the University of Tokyo (ERI) and the
Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC) are holding a joint,
international summer school on earthquake science September 23-27, 2013 in
Hakone, Japan.
This is the first installment of a planned series of similar summer schools
on earthquake science in the future. We encourage Ph.D. students and
post-docs in all related fields of Earth science to participate.
Detailed information and application material is posted at
http://www.eri.u-tokyo.ac.jp/iSSEs2013
PLEASE NOTE: The deadline for applications is July 15, 2013.
The theme of this year's school is "Diversity of Earthquakes", and three
sessions on "huge earthquakes", "transient phenomena", and "fault zones"
are planned. There will be ~15 keynote lecturers from leading scientists
from various research fields including geophysics, seismology, geodesy and
geology, with shorter presentations (and posters) by participants.
We anticipate to be able to accommodate ~40 Ph.D. students or post-docs
from the international community. A limited amount of support for lodging
