The February 3 deadline to register for the 2014 UNAVCO Science Workshop: Celebrating 30 years of Geodesy Innovation for Science is coming quickly!

Join us in celebrating 30 years since the inception of UNAVCO at the 2014 UNAVCO Science Workshop, March 3 - 6, 2014 (at the Omni Interlocken Hotel, Broomfield, CO). We are planning a bang-up program of scientific and technical sessions, a celebratory banquet that features Byron Tapley as the keynote speaker, and an Ignite Session that where you can speak to UNAVCO's origins and other seminal events in Ignite presentation - a snappy, 5-minute, 20-slide, 15-second auto-advance, format touted by O'Reilley media as a "fast-paced geek event."

Plenary sessions:
Coastal subsidence and sea level rise
Large scale computing constrained by Geodesy
Exploiting data from dense geodetic networks
Mixing it up: Multi-sensor systems for hazards applications (geodesy, seismology, and real-time monitoring)
Geodesy for the cryosphere
Regional effects of great earthquakes: Triggering, lithospheric response, post-seismic slip and other transients

We also have a nice roster of Special Topics Sessions (breakouts):
Coastal subsidence, ice loss, glacial rebound and sea level change
Science powered by WInSAR – Achievement and opportunities of accessible InSAR data
Loading & transient deformation on a variety of timescales: weekly to decadal
Cyberinfrastructure & EarthCube: meeting challenges with CI; DOI
GNSS, network modernization, and other emerging technologies
Undergraduate geodesy curriculum
Science questions at a hemisphere scale: towards federation of geodetic networks across the Americas
Geoscience/geodesy workforce development and training
Using borehole and long baseline data to detect transient deformation
High rate, real-time GPS for studies of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other major events
Science opportunities in extreme environments, technical requirements & logistical constraints
Near-Field Geodetic Imaging: the Now and the Future

      Ignite UNAVCO:
Origins and key transitions in UNAVCO's history – Wednesday evening - sign up when you register or drop an email to: Jaime Magliocca <magliocca at unavco.org>

Ignite is a forum of short, fast paced, thought-provoking talks, where presenters get five minutes, 20 slides, and a 15-second auto advance to make their point. The Ignite sessions are meant to held in an informal venue – ours will be in the evening with refreshments. Some of you may be familiar with Ignite or may have seen UNAVCO's previous Ignite session (http://igniteshow.com/unavco).

This is meant to be a lighthearted hour or two to capture history and community reflections on UNAVCO's origins and seminal events. Should be fun!

Wednesday afternoon options:

Option 1: Four Mile Canyon flood effects and terrestrial laser scanning demonstration
Option 2: Visit to UNAVCO Facility
Option 3 : Hydrogeodesy Short Course – offered by Kristine Larson & Shimon Wdowinski
Lunch roundtables (formerly Special Topics Mini-Sessions or Mini-STS):
Schedule now by writing Jaime or self-organize on site.....

Mentor a Student
Sign up to mentor a student (or to be mentored!) during the workshop... UNAVCO ECE will structure and support your activities

Submit an abstract for your invited talk or contributed poster, and watch the website for updates!

I will send you another reminder next week.....
