Dear UNAVCO Community Members-
Two years ago, with encouragement from NSF and the UNAVCO Board of
Directors, UNAVCO implemented Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for
GPS/GNSS data sets. Data DOIs can facilitate data citation and
attribution by users of the free and open data in the UNAVCO Data
Center. Data DOIs may also enhance research and communications between
researchers and other stakeholders. More information about UNAVCO data
DOIs is at http://www.unavco.org/data/doi/doi.html.

To date, UNAVCO has published 1000 permanent station data set DOIs
(primarily from the Plate Boundary Observatory) and about 100 campaign
GPS data set DOIs. There are still 2000 permanent and 1000 campaign data
sets remaining for DOI assignment. We have hired Matt Peters and Matt
Lancaster as interns for 8 weeks this summer to prepare and assign DOIs.
If you have contributed data to the UNAVCO GPS Archive, you can expect
to hear from them about creating DOIs for your data. Please help them in
a timely fashion with verifying the creator list for your data sets and
if possible, providing them with any significant peer-reviewed
publications that are associated with your data and can be highlighted
in the DOI system. Your help would be greatly appreciated and will
enhance the Archive while advancing data services and research for the
community and beyond.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Best regards,
Fran
