2 Postdoctoral Fellowships in GNSS Vertical Land Motion & GNSS Civil Infrastructure Monitoring/Central Washington University.
The CWU Geodesy Laboratory analyzes data from 500 continuously operating GNSS receivers located throughout the Pacific Northwest, all of which record high-rate data telemetered in real-time. These instruments straddle active crustal faults, volcanoes and landslides, the magnitude-9 Cascadia subduction zone and its attendant tsunamigenic region along the Pacific coast, and numerous heavy civil engineered structures, including concrete-arch and earthen-fill dams and a variety of floating Interstate and other large bridges. We seek two postdoctoral researchers to model observed signals relevant to sea-level rise forecasts and structural deformation recorded with existing GNSS measurements. The first will use coastal GNSS measurements throughout the Pacific Northwest to constrain vertical land motion for purposes of constraining regional variability of sea-level rise. The second will model structural deformation observed in response to a variety of transient environmental forces. The successful candidates will work closely with existing staff within the CWU Geodesy Lab and Cascadia Hazards Institute. Initial appointment is for one year but may be extended depending on funding and satisfactory progress. Ellensburg lies 90 minutes east of Seattle and enjoys one of the finest living environments in the Pacific Northwest. A PhD in Geophysics, Geodesy or Civil Engineering is required.
