The department of Geosciences at the Ecole normale superieure,
France, and the University of Luxembourg are seeking a highly
motivated student to work on a project cofunded by CNES (French
Space Agency) and Luxembourg University aimed at improving our
understanding of the response of the Earth to seasonal loads (among
which continental water and atmospheric pressure). The student will
compare GNSS observations to predictions from global Earth models
of deformation under loads derived from GRACE data. He/she will
develop new approaches to improve the Earth model so as to best
match vertical and horizontal geodetic observations. He/she will
investigate the physics that control eventual deviations from a
purely elastic Earth. Successful candidates must have a strong
background in geophysics and/or physics, and a solid background in
computing. They must meet doctoral admissions requirements of both
universities. Applicants should send a vitae, a motivation statement,
and a list of 3 references to Eric Calais (eric.calais at ens.fr),
Luce Fleitout (fleitout at geologie.ens.fr), and Tonie van Dam
(tonie.vandam at uni.lu).
