> Using TLS and Structure from Motion (SfM) Photogrammetry in Undergraduate Field Education - Short Course
> Dates: 6 pm Tuesday August 16 – noon Friday August 19, 2016
> Location: Indiana University Geologic Field Station (http://www.indiana.edu/~iugfs/ <http://www.indiana.edu/~iugfs/>), Cardwell, MT in the Tobacco Root Mountains of southwest Montana
> APPLICATION and more information on the short course webpage https://www.unavco.org/education/advancing-geodetic-skills/short-courses/2016/field-education/field-education.html <https://www.unavco.org/education/advancing-geodetic-skills/short-courses/2016/field-education/field-education.html> - DEADLINE April 7th (space limited apply now)
> Fieldwork is an integral part of the geosciences and there is a longstanding tradition of teaching field methods as part of the undergraduate curriculum. As the technologies for scientific examination of Earth have grown, there is more interest in introducing these geodetic technologies into field education curriculum. Technology integration into field education has several advantages, including student engagement and workforce development. This short course has been developed in response to community interest and input.
> The goal of this workshop is to equip instructors of geoscience courses with field components with the knowledge and skills needed to integrate terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) and structure from motion (SfM) photogrammetry methods and applications into their courses. The type of teaching resources that will be featured can be previewed in modules “Using TLS in undergraduate geology field courses” https://www.unavco.org/education/resources/educational-resources/lesson/field-geodesy/field-geodesy.html <https://www.unavco.org/education/resources/educational-resources/lesson/field-geodesy/field-geodesy.html>). We also hope to use this workshop as an opportunity to discuss best practices, learn about other uses of these technologies in field education, and to identify needs and recommendations for facility support of geodesy in field education. Participation is encouraged for instructors who expect to request field education support from UNAVCO in the future.
> LOGISTICS & COSTS
