Hydrology/geodesy postdoctoral position available at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography
We seek to fill a Postdoctoral Researcher position at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) to work at the intersection of hydrology and geophysics. This position will be hosted at the Institute for Geophysics and Planetary Physics (igppweb.ucsd.edu <http://igppweb.ucsd.edu/>), but will interface with others doing related research at SIO, including the Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes (cw3e.ucsd.edu), which studies the origins and impacts of extreme hydrometeorological events in the Western United States.

Our work relates observations of Earth's surface deformation and gravity to changes in terrestrial water storage at continental to watershed scales in North America. We are looking either for a hydrologist with an interest in using geophysical techniques to observe and understand the water cycle, or a geophysicist/geodesist with an interest in branching out into hydrology. The successful candidate will work with interested SIO faculty and graduate students on one or more problems tailored to her/his specific skillset and interests.
Previous experience in the processing and analysis of hydrological/climatological (e.g. NLDAS) datasets, large scale hydrological modeling, or geodetic remote sensing (e.g. GPS/GNSS and/or InSAR) datasets is highly desirable, as is proficiency in programming (IDL, Matlab, Python, R, etc.) and a solid understanding of statistical methods (especially time series and spatial analysis). Facility with mathematical inverse techniques would be a plus.

Salary for the position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and will be based on the University of California pay scale, plus benefits. The target start date is September 2016, but is negotiable. The position is for one year, with renewal for subsequent years subject to performance.

Cover letter, CV, and names of three referees should be sent electronically to Adrian Borsa (aborsa at ucsd.edu <mailto:aborsa at ucsd.edu>) by 8 July 2016 with the subject line “Hydrology/geodesy postdoc application 2016”. Questions about the scope of the position or experience desired are welcome.
