Postdoctoral position available at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography
We seek to fill a position at the Postdoctoral Researcher level at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), University of California San Diego (UCSD). This position is located in La Jolla, California, and will be split between the Scripps Glaciology Group and the Institute for Geophysics and Planetary Physics (see: http://glaciology.ucsd.edu <http://glaciology.ucsd.edu/> & http://igppweb.ucsd.edu <http://igppweb.ucsd.edu/>).
The successful applicant will work with SIO members of the ICESat-2 <http://icesat-2.gsfc.nasa.gov/> and NiSAR <http://nisar.jpl.nasa.gov/> science definition teams to validate data products and processing algorithms for these missions. This work will incorporate existing altimeter and InSAR datasets (e.g., ICESat, CryoSat-2, ALOS, Sentinel-1), and will be targeted toward advancing science applications on ice sheets and permafrost. Previous experience in the processing and analysis of satellite altimetry and/or InSAR datasets is highly desirable. Proficiency in IDL, Matlab, and/or Python and a solid understanding of geodesy and geodetic methods would be a bonus.
This is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of these exciting new space geodetic missions and to become part of the next generation of NASA-affiliated scientists.
Salary for the position will be determined by the University commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on the University of California pay scale, plus benefits. Starting date is negotiable, but ideally the candidate would be available to start on or before 1 September 2016. The position is for one year, with renewal for a second year subject to performance.
Applications should be sent electronically (application letter, CV, and names of three referees) copied both to Helen Amanda Fricker (hafricker at ucsd.edu <mailto:hafricker at ucsd.edu>) and Adrian Borsa (aborsa at ucsd.edu <mailto:aborsa at ucsd.edu>) by 15 June 2016 with the subject line "Postdoc application 2016". Please also email us if there are any questions about the scope of the position and experience requirements.
