The U.S. Geological Survey invites applications for a geophysicist position
at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. This is a full-time, permanent
position monitoring ground surface deformation on some of Earth’s most
active volcanoes.

Situated on the edge of Kīlauea Caldera, the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory
is a multidisciplinary group of scientists responsible for the assessment
of volcanic and seismic hazards within the Hawaiian Islands.

*Job duties include*:

   - Independently organizes surveys to collect geophysical data,
especially deformation monitoring data. Independently performs accurate and
precise Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) surveys. Ensures field
data are processed and evaluates data for accuracy.
   - Monitors operational status of telemetered deformation monitoring
networks and acquisition systems. Monitors automated data processing to
ensure consistency and timeliness. Downloads Interferometric Radar
Satellite (InSAR) data and processes data to produce interferograms.
   - Installs software upgrades and modifies programs as needed. Develops
new and refines existing software to remotely and automatically download
data from continuously recording sites such as deformation monitoring
stations. Assists in refinement or development of data processing,
visualization, analysis, backup and archival tools. Develops new methods
for combining and visualizing data to make complex data more easily
   understood.
   - Assumes monitoring network manager duties as back up to the primary
   network manager.
   - Analyzes complex volcano monitoring data to assess volcano unrest.
Contributes to technical reports of monitoring data and to scientific
   publications.
   - Field work includes moderate to strenuous activities such as hiking
over rough, rocky or uneven terrain, lifting and carrying equipment,
exposure to rain, cold/hot weather and volcanic fume.
