UNAVCO is supporting two short courses in conjunction with the EarthScope National Meeting <http://www.earthscope.org/events/National_Meeting_2017>

Communicating Science for Impact
This workshop takes a hands-on approach to learning the tricks of science communication, focusing on science communication as a conversation. The skills practiced can be applied to all channels of communication, from a public lecture to a social media feed. You will leave this workshop with personal goals for public outreach as well as a cohort of scientists similarly working to improve communication skills.

Instructors: Beth Bartel (UNAVCO) and Maite Agopian (ESNO)
Audience: Graduate students and researchers interested in increasing the reach of their science
Dates: 15 May, 2017 12:30-5:30
Location: Dena’ina Convention Center, Anchorage, AK, USA
For more information and to register please visit our detailed webpage <http://www.unavco.org/education/professional-development/short-courses/2017/communicating-science/communicating-science.html>. Note: you must register for the EarthScope National Meeting separately.

Working with Strainmeter Data
If your research involves modeling strain transients, analyzing the evolution of Episodic Tremor and Slip signals, studying the Earth tides or strains induced by atmospheric pressure, seiches or seismic waves then you might be interested in this course. Students will learn how strainmeters work, study examples where the data were used to model strain transients, and gain knowledge of the basic steps involved in processing strainmeter data.

Instructors: Duncan Agnew (UCSD), Kathleen Hodgkinson (UNAVCO), Evelyn Roeloffs (USGS)
Audience: Graduate students and researchers
Dates: 15 May, 2017 12:30-5:30
Location: Kahtnu 2 room, Dena’ina Convention Center, Anchorage, AK, USA

For more information and to register please visit the strainmeter short course webpage <http://www.unavco.org/education/professional-development/short-courses/2017/strainmeter/strainmeter.html>. Note: you must register for the EarthScope National Meeting separately.

Both courses are held in conjunction with the 2017 EarthScope National Meeting <http://www.earthscope.org/events/National_Meeting_2017>
