Postdoc position available at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography

We are seeking a talented postdoctoral scholar with prior experience in satellite altimetry to work with NASA’s ICESat-2 Science Definition Team and IceBridge Science Team to validate data products and processing algorithms for these missions, and incorporate existing satellite laser and radar altimeter datasets (e.g., ICESat, CryoSat-2). The work will be targeted toward advancing science applications on ice shelves, grounded ice, and terrestrial reference surfaces (e.g. dry lakes). The postdoc may also be involved in examining the relationship of changes in ice shelf thickness to changes in the ocean/atmosphere and the grounded ice sheet, and to changing surface properties. Collaboration is with ESR & Stanford University.
Minimum qualifications are a PhD in glaciology, geophysics, geodesy, electrical engineering or a related topic with the documented ability to publish results in peer-review papers. Previous experience in the processing and analysis of satellite altimetry is essential. Additional preferred skills: proficiency in analysis, processing and visualization of remotely-sensed datasets and scientific programming; a solid understanding of geodesy and numerical methods; and scientific communication (verbal and written).
The location for this position will be the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics (IGPP), Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), University of California San Diego (UCSD), within the Scripps Glaciology Group at IGPP. The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, gender identity or sexual orientation.
