Hello UNAVCO community
Please see the announcement below regarding a professional development opportunity for grad students and postdocs. Consider forwarding the announcement to your students who may be interested if they are not on the UNAVCO listserv. The larger Earth Educator’s Rendezvous will also be very valuable for them to attend.

The main goals of the workshop are for participants to improve their application and interview skills for academic jobs, become more effective at goal-setting, and broaden their network of colleagues and resources to help jump-start their teaching and research as a faculty member. During the workshop and associated Rendezvous, each participant will:
Learn about academic careers in different educational settings (e.g., two-year colleges, primarily undergraduate institutions, universities).
Develop a plan for your next career stage and set goals to move toward that plan.
Learn about the job search process and develop or revise application materials.
Improve communication skills needed for an the elevator pitch, interviews and negotiating.
Explore aspects of effective and innovative teaching, including a choice of Monday-Wednesday afternoon Rendezvous workshops and sessions. These are open and included in registration.
Participate in break-out sessions with peers at similar career stages.

The Preparing for an Academic Career workshop is designed specifically for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and others who are interested in pursuing academic careers in the geosciences. For the third year in a row, the workshop will be offered at the Earth Educators' Rendezvous <https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fserc.carleton.edu%2Fearth_rendezvous%2F2018%2Findex.html&data=02%7C01%7Crbeane%40bowdoin.edu%7C0b7ac70f29fb4ebfe0b808d56c377f94%7Ce4fc880e3b874b7399a526894ba18fd2%7C1%7C0%7C636533908004351791&sdata=3%2BAuL4s%2BleeK%2FaAPy0tVD3ZeEQDuYreHD5%2F6%2F1Bj4PE%3D&reserved=0>.
