The IRIS PASSCAL Instrument Center at New Mexico Tech solicits applications for a professional Staff Scientist/Data Specialist for seismology support operations. The PASSCAL Instrument Center supports both controlled and passive source seismology worldwide with end-to-end experiment support services, state-of-the-art portable seismic instrumentation, and advanced field and database management tools.

Job Duties:
Core responsibility is to support seismological experiments, particularly in the realm of data archiving. Objectives include : Ensuring the best possible set of data and metadata are archived with the IRIS DMC; User support to contribute to the overall PASSCAL mission to facilitate science by the IRIS community; Generation of bi-monthly data status and work load reports; Knowledge and understanding of data formats, tools, procedures, software and hardware used at PASSCAL and in the community. 

Qualifications:
Master’s degree in geophysics or related science, or 3 years directly applicable experience required. Familiarity with UNIX/Linux systems and scripting languages required. Successful applicants will have a demonstrated working knowledge of time-series data formats. Additional desired qualifications include: Seismological field experience; Database experience; and working knowledge of SEED, SAC, SEG-Y seismic data formats.
