VP of Administration


Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) is seeking a
collaborative, motivated leader with a proven track record of maintaining
finances and administrative functions for an organization.  The Vice
President of Administration will provide the leadership, management, and
vision necessary to ensure the organization has the proper operational
controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people in place to
effectively grow and ensure financial strength and operating efficiency.


IRIS was founded in 1984 with support from the National Science Foundation
(NSF), IRIS is a consortium of 125 U.S. universities dedicated to advancing
research and education in seismology to understand our dynamic planet and
to benefit society. IRIS programs contribute to new discoveries within our
planet, natural hazard mitigation, national security, environmental
monitoring, advances in geo-computation, networking and communications, and
in building a scientifically and technologically proficient workforce. The
IRIS membership comprises virtually all U.S. universities with research
programs in seismology and includes a growing number of Educational
Affiliates, U.S. Affiliates, and Foreign Affiliates. IRIS management is
currently headquartered in Washington, DC, but IRIS facilities are
distributed internationally and operated in cooperation with the U.S.
Geological Survey and other partner organizations and institutions. IRIS
has annual revenues of approximately $30 million, and the Consortium
employs roughly 51 full-time professional staff.

As a member of Senior Leadership, this position reports directly to the
President, is responsible for coordination of the business, human
resources, finance, and sponsored projects departments including day-to-day
operations, budgeting, addressing of staff issues and coordination of
activities with other departments. This newly formed role will play a key
part in planning and implementing the upcoming merger with our sister
organization, UNAVCO, later this year.  The incumbent will assist with the
development of the strategic roadmap to bring the two administrative teams
into one effective organization, leading change management and
communications while ensuring operational excellence of the team.


The ideal candidate will be an excellent leader with strong initiative,
ability to operate strategically and translate that strategy into
execution, able to deal with ambiguity and multi-tasking, have a strong
process and detail orientation as well as a high degree of collaboration
and consensus-building.

Some travel (up to 20%) within the United States will be required.

In accordance with Executive Order 14042, all IRIS employees are required
