lang="EN-US"><span class="" lang="EN-US">In the 21st century,
there appears to be a global surge of great earthquakes: 19
Mw>8 earthquakes have been reported since 2004. On the
other hand, slow sip events (SSEs) and non-volcanic tremors
have been discovered in a variety of tectonic settings,
including a number of subduction zones such as Nankai,
Cascadia, Central America, New Zealand and Alaska. Reducing
losses from megathrust earthquakes and sometimes accompanied
tsunami demands a better understanding of the full spectrum of
fault slip along subduction zones. In this session, we solicit
contributions on studies of subduction zone process from
earthquake seismology, geodesy, numerical modeling, and
laboratory experiment. Topics include, but are not limited to,
rupture process and cycles of megathrust earthquake,
subduction zone structure, frictional properties of the
subduction fault interface, effect of fluid in seismic
behavior, mechanism of SSEs/tremors, and relationship between
megathrust rupture and SSEs/tremors.</span><br>
