an emphasis on Marine Geology and Geophysics research</b> that will take place
in December 2016 (2 – 17 December) aboard the R/V Sikuliaq during a transit
from Honolulu, HI to San Diego, CA. </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><span style="font-family:helvetica">The goal of this program is to help
early-career marine scientists (e.g., <b>PhD
students, postdocs and new faculty</b>) plan and write effective cruise proposals,
plan surveys to address significant scientific questions, execute surveys at
sea, and generate at-sea cruise reports for marine geological and geophysical
research and education. </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><span style="font-family:helvetica"> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><span style="font-family:helvetica">Participants will plan and execute six
days of at-sea marine geophysical research that will take advantage of the ship’s
installed equipment to address specific scientific questions identified during pre-cruise
preparations. </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><span style="font-family:helvetica"> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><span style="font-family:helvetica">Travel costs, research supplies, and
shipping will be paid for participants. Space is limited. To apply you must be
an employee or student (U.S. Citizen or permanent resident) at a U.S.
institution or a U.S. citizen working abroad.</span></p>
